A 66-year-old woman has allegedly set herself ablaze in Sekondi, a suburb of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis on Thursday afternoon, August 12.
Speaking to Skyy Power 93.5FM, Mr. James Obeng, the Director for National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), at the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), disclosed that, Madam Cecilia Koomson allegedly poured fuel in her room and set herself ablaze due to reasons unknown to them.
Also, the woman locked the door before setting up the fire, making it difficult for the tenants or fire service to break in and when did, she was dead and burnt beyond recognition.
However, a tenant and a witness also explained that, before the fire, her 13-year-old brother came to report to her about the smell of fuel that has engulfed the house and after a thorough search found nothing.
She said, “After my brother told me about the smell of fuel, I came to check what might be the problem but found nothing. After a few seconds that I turned to walk away, I saw smoke coming out of Auntie Cecilia’s room and I started calling for help.”
According to Mr. Obeng, the tenants in the house explained to him that, they have been seeing the woman bring in some substance in a black polybag and since she was not well, they thought it was her medication.
Apparently, the police pounced on a gallon of fuel in the room during investigation and the tenants alleged that was what Madam Cecilia was seen transporting in bits.
