There is a raging commotion within the rank and file of the governing New Patriotic Party over who succeeds the current president to lead the party for the 2024 general election.
Some big wigs in the party are vying for the minister for trade and industry, Hon. Alan Kyeremanteng while the grassroots are canvassing for the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumiah.
One political stalwart of the party, Hon. Asafu Adjei, a former member of parliament, has jumped into the fray describing the candidature of the vice president as an alien to the traditions of the party thereby, throwing his weight behind the trade minister.
Whilst everything is clear on the ground that, the masses are garnering for the vice president to lead the party for the upcoming general election. Many political watchers have predicted that, it would be a keenly contested battle between the vice president and the trade minister over who emerges triumphant to lead the party for a successful election.
The level of acrimonious expressions are rife at the headquarters of the party as the party grassroots throng to the national headquarters of the party to declare their unflinching support for the vice president.
