Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics because of a knee injury.

The Swiss, who turns 40 next month, picked up the problem during the grass court season and was last seen when losing in straight sets in the quarter-final at Wimbledon last week.

Prior to that, he had withdrawn from the French Open after winning his third round match to save himself for the grasscourt campaign.
