As notoriety has taken a centre stage of everything in Ghana, most especially, the Ghanaian national capital Accra, the Ghana Police Service, has announced their readiness to deal ruthlessly with motor riders who ride carelessly on our roads.
The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare, has warned those who indulge in such criminal conducts to desist from it before it is too late for them.
According to him, the level at which some people ride these days, has reached an alarming proportion, which, if care is not taken, we will sing a certain song in the country.
Dr. Dampare has therefore thrown a very strong caution to the wind, whistling into repeatedly into the ears of the indisciplined and lawless miscreants to turn to new leaf before the laws of the country catch up with them.
He hinted that, whoever is caught in that offensive line, would be dealt with severely without prejudice. It is common nowadays to see motor riders on our highways riding aimlessly as if they are being chased by their ancestors from their villages.
The call from the Inspector General of Police to clampdown on such hooligans in our communities, is a welcomed one and it must be endorsed by every well meaning motorists. Our safety must be guaranteed; starting from ourselves and therefore, we must not allow those who flout our traffic regulations on our roads with an impunity to go escort free.
