Police Hospital to conduct mass burial for 200 ‘unknown’ bodies

The Ghana Police Service has notified the public that it will be conducting mass burial for 200 unidentified and unclaimed bodies

A statement by the Police said the burials will begin “by close of work this week”. The statement added that the move aims to decongest the Police Hospital mortuary.

An official of the hospital, Yaw Nketta-Yeboah, told the BBC that the bodies, which accumulated over the past six months, include those of hit-and-run accident victims, and poor people who die on the street.

They also include unidentified crime victims and some who died on admission to hospitals but were abandoned by families, he added.

The police hospital urged members of the public to try and contact its pathology department from Monday this week to help identify the bodies.
