The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amotia Ofori Panin, has called for the suspension of mining in the country for a year for a review of the legal regime governing the whole sector.

He additionally required the decoupling of the Minerals Commission from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for the Commission to have the free hand to work.

The Okyenhene expressed this when the sector Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, paid a courtesy call on him on Thursday, May 27 as a feature of his two-day visit through the Eastern Region.

As indicated by Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori-Panin, it is significant for government to satisfactorily asset the Minerals Commission to adequately complete its order.

Addressing compensation for mineworkers, he noticed that the difference between the Ghanaian excavator laborer and others in different wards is too wide and should be taken a gander at.

On his part, the Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, said every one of the issues and concerns raised by the Okyenhene will be postponed for additional thoughts.
