New IGP to be sworn in today


The acting Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, COP Dr George Akuffo Dampare is expected to be sworn in today Friday October 8 by the the president Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo as Inspector General.

COP Akufo Dampare on Wednesday July 21, 2021 appointed by the president as the Acting IGP effective August 1 after directing former IGP James Oppong Boanuh to embark on terminal leave before his retirement

The acting IGP has since his appointed gained admiration from majority of the general public and the president.

“He has so far vindicated my decision to appoint him,” President Akufo-Addo said on October 1, 2021, when he commissioned 129 Cadet Officers into the Senior Officers Corps of the Ghana Police Service during a graduation ceremony at the Ghana Police Academy in Accra.

Once he is sworn in, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare will become Ghana’s 23rd IGP.

He will not only be the youngest IGP to be appointed in the Fourth Republic but will become the eighth youngest since Ghana gained independence.
